Golden Journey
Tumwater Canyon, Washington
Golden Journey captures the Wenatchee River winding through Tumwater Canyon at the height of Washington’s autumn color. Golden cottonwoods and fiery brush line the rocky banks, glowing against the deep green of surrounding evergreens. Mist drifts among the distant ridges, softening the rugged peaks and creating a painterly sense of depth and calm above the rushing water below.
The balance of light and tone came together after a passing rain shower, when clouds began to lift and the foliage shimmered in perfect contrast. From a roadside overlook, I watched the light shift across the canyon, waiting for the moment when the gold leaves caught the soft diffused glow that brings this scene to life. The cool blues of the river and the warmth of the forest combine here in harmony — a fleeting balance between motion and stillness, strength and serenity.
