Granite Monarch
Yosemite National Park, California
Granite Monarch was captured from Southside Drive in Yosemite Valley just as winter clouds began to lift. El Capitan stood above the valley floor, its granite face catching a brief wash of warm light while snow still clung to ledges and trees below. Mist moved across the summit, softening the upper edge of the formation and adding depth to the scene.
What held my attention was the contrast between strength and stillness. The massive wall of stone felt immovable, yet the light and drifting cloud gave it a sense of motion and life. Snow along the base of the cliff and throughout the forest created texture and scale, emphasizing just how immense El Capitan truly is.
This limited-edition fine art print is produced using museum-quality materials to preserve the subtle tonal shifts in the granite and the fine detail in the snow-covered trees. Each piece is personally overseen from capture through final production to ensure the print reflects the atmosphere of that winter morning in Yosemite Valley.
