Snow and Stone
Yosemite National Park, California
Snow and Stone was captured along Southside Drive after a winter storm passed through Yosemite Valley. Fresh snow blanketed the forest floor and clung to the pines, while El Capitan caught a brief wash of warm light along its granite face. To the right, the Three Brothers rise above the valley, with one peak partially hidden by drifting cloud.
I framed this scene to show the balance between the softness of snow and the permanence of granite. The forest in the foreground provides scale and depth, while the cliffs dominate the skyline above. The mist shifted constantly that morning, revealing and concealing detail across the rock walls.
This limited-edition fine art print is produced using museum-quality materials to preserve the texture of the granite and the detail in the snow-covered trees. Each piece is personally overseen from capture through final production to ensure the print reflects the atmosphere of Yosemite in winter.
